North Colorado Springs Construction Update (Pt. II)

Yesterday I started writing a blog about North Colorado Springs Construction projects, and the folks from Bal Seal Engineering were so forthcoming with information that I ended up filling my entire blog entry with information about their new facility, located at Voyager and Republic.  Today, I will cover the other projects that are happening in North Colorado Springs.

Renaissance by Marriott at InterQuest

The partially built Renaissance Hotel in North Colorado Springs

One of the projects for which I regularly am asked questions is the partially built hotel that is located behind the Hollywood Theaters on InterQuest Parkway.  Construction on the hotel stopped in late 2009 when the worst of the economic downturn hit Colorado Springs.  The original developer of the Renaissance by Marriott Hotel and Convention Center stopped construction on the hotel nearly four years ago.  After that, the project went into foreclosure and was purchased by an investor who has been trying to sell it ever since.  Just recently, the Colorado Springs Gazette reported that a new buyer had been found and the project was in the negotiation phase to value the property before a sale occurs.  The current owner says that it will take approximately 10-12 months of construction to finish the 300 room hotel and have it open to the public.

The hotel will be a welcome addition for visitors to North Colorado Springs such as Pine Creek and Flying Horse Ranch who are looking for a higher-end hotel without having to travel further south into the city to do so.

Movie Theaters at Chapel Hills Mall

Finally, a quick update on the new movie theaters that are being built at Chapel Hills Mall right next to Dillard’s in Briargate.  They are scheduled to open in late 2013…hopefully in time for the slate of holiday blockbuster movies that are released around Thanksgiving.  The theaters will feature 13 screens with nearly 3,000 seats and will be the first theater in Colorado to feature what Carmike Theaters describe as their ‘BigD’ experience.  I can taste the edible oil popcorn topping now…

If you have any other North Colorado Springs construction projects you’d like me to look into, just reply to this post or contact me and I’ll see what I can find out.
